The Novi Sad-Subotica railway is 108.2-km long and is the third section of the high-speed railway through Serbia on the Belgrade-Budapest route.
The commercial contract signed last June with the consortium of China Railway International and China Communications Construction Company is worth EUR 943 million, the Infrastructure of Serbian Railways announced.
The project will entail stations, the reconstruction and modernization of the railway hubs Novi Sad, Vrbas and Subotica and the deleveling of the crossings with road and pedestrian-cycling routes.
It also entails the installation of a power infrastructure, which allows for a safe transport at the projected speeds and the implementation of the European system of rail transport management.
The project covers the preparation of technical documentation, procurement, delivery and construction.
The reconstruction of nine railway stations is planned: Novi Sad, Sajlovo, Kisac, Stepanovicevo, Zmajevo, Backa Topola, Zednik, Naumovicevo and Subotica, as well as three new stations: Rumenka, Vrbas and Lovcenac.
A 1.6-km viaduct will be built in Vrbas.
The completion deadline is 33 months.
The project of the modernization of the Novi Sad-Subotica railway entails the implementation of European interoperability standards.
