Vladimir Taušanović, the Director General of public utility company "Beogradski vodovod i kanalizacija", and Arthur Cole, the Ambassador of Israel to Belgrade, have visited the building site of water treatment unit "Makiš
2", and they have seen for themselves that the construction of this facility goes as planned. The carrier of the project is Israeli company "Tahal", which has also delivered the equipment, while the construction works are being carried out by Slovenian company "Primorje".
– Construction goes as planned, and it should be finished in the second half of the next year. Construction of the accompanying water treatment facilities and complete infrastructure in Makiš commenced in the 1980's, and "Makiš 2" is the last facility in the complex in that location. The new unit will be producing 2 cubic meters of drinking water per second, and its construction will enable further expansion of Belgrade's water supply system, first of all, towards Mladenovac. That is how sufficient quantity of water will be provided for the broader territory of Belgrade for the next 20 years. Once "Makiš 2" is put in operation, units "Bele vode" and "Vinča", which use extremely old water treatment technology, will definitely be closed – Vladimir Taušanović told Beoinfo.
Arthur Cole pointed out that the construction of new water treatment unit was of great significance to both Israel, of which company was the carrier of the whole project, and Serbia, which was going to reach European and global standards in water supply and wastewater treatment at the time when every drop of water was precious.
