At the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, Stevanovic discussed the possibility of having precisely these companies from the sectors of agriculture, environmental protection and the metal sector the first “residents” of the future park on 500 ha in Smederevo.
– We expect to bring the activities to a close when it comes to organization, that is, the signing of final documents pertaining to the Chinese-Serbian Industrial Park in Smederevo – Stevanovic says.
HBIS Group, the owner of Smederevo steel mill, has organized the arrival of potential Chinese investors to Serbia, satisfied with its operations in the country, Stevanovic says.
The project was initiated in 2016 with the signing of a memorandum between the two parties. Stevanovic says that the job is not at all simple, but that both sides are ready to see the project through. If contracts with these companies are signed, they will serve as the foundation, in the administrative sense, for the construction of the park in Smederevo.
There is a possibility of the first construction works’ starting in the upcoming period, if the agreements with the said companies are realized.
The companies visiting the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia are Veolia China, Construction Engineering, Anguo Qianjin Nonwoven Co, agricultural giant Hebei Meikeduo Foods Group Co and HBIS Group.
The director of the Sector for International Economic Relations at the CCIS, Jelena Jovanovic, reminds that Serbia was confirmed as the investment destination number one in the region, as the country had attracted more than 55% of direct foreign investments.
– The good news has spread and the investors are slowly coming. Today, CCIS experts will answer all the technical questions the Chinese companies have so that they could prepare as soon as possible and find their infrastructural partners here – Jovanovic said.
The total investments of China in Serbia, those agreed and announced, reached the amount of around USD 2.3 billion last year.
