Professor Ilija Cosic, (Ph. D. Mechanical Engineering) was born on September 5, 1948 in Rivica, Irig, Autonomous Province of Voivodina.

He finished elementary school in his birthplace and Irig, and graduated from Technical highschool in Ruma in 1967. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Novi Sad in 1972.

He defended his Master’s thesis entitled: Contribution to the Research on the Structure of Installation System within a General Model of Industrial Systems at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad in 1979 where he also obtained his PhD degree with the thesis: Contribution to Developing Industrial Structures Featuring Increased Degree of Flexibility in 1983.

He started working at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering as a research assistant immediately after graduation. After completing his military service in 1974 he was appointed assistant for the subject Factory installations.

He became assistant professor at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad in 1983, associate professor in 1988 and full-time professor in the area of production systems in 1993.

Prof. Cosic has taught the following courses:

  • Studying and measuring work
  • Technological bases of effective production
  • Basic theory of industrial systems
  • Production systems design
  • Production systems design
  • Organization and management
  • Small enterprise management
  • Production management
  • Effective production plants

In addition to lecturing in Novi Sad Professor Cosic has also taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Mostar, Military Academy in Zagreb, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Serbian Sarajevo, Technical Faculty in Zrenjanin, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Banja Luka and Technical College in Doboj.

Professor Ilija Cosic has published as a co-author or individual author sixteen (16) books, over 150 scientific and research papers as well as a chapter in the book Group Technologypublished in the USA. With his colleagues he has completed 22 projects, and was the head of the project “Research and development of the structure of computer integrated, robotic effective production systems” (11MO9RT1) financed by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Serbia for the period 1996-2000. He is also active in the processes of cooperation with industry which have resulted in 32 projects related to technological, product ional and organizational structure of enterprises. Within the process of reforming higher education according to the recommendations of the Bologna Declaration Prof. Cosic was the head of the project Development of the organizational structure of an integrated university, financed by the Provincial government.

He held the positions of the director of the Institute for industrial systems at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, the head of the Chair of production systems, organization and management, and was the vice rector of the University of Novi Sad (2000/2001). He has been the Dean of the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad since 1998.

Prof. Cosic gained specialization in Germany and Switzerland and was a visiting professor at Stuttgart University on the project Development of an Expert System for the Configuration of Assembly Systems. He participated in the designing and mounting of the model of the plant for installation and logistics at the Institute IAO in Stuttgart.

Prof. Cosic has been the supervisor of a number of diploma papers as well as the supervisor or a member of the examining committees for over 50 master’s and 18 doctoral theses in Novi Sad, Banja Luka, Mostar, Zrenjanin and Serbian Sarajevo.

He was the founder of the students’ organization “Masinac”, and the initiator and the first editor of the student newspaper “Masinac” (in 1971).

Prof. Cosic was a representative in the Serbian Parliament, a delegate in the Novi Sad municipal assembly and a member of the Council for building sport and business center SPENS in Novi Sad. He also held the position of the president of the Municipal and University Committees as well as that of the Executive secretary for science and education of PKSK of Voivodina.

Prof. Cosic has been awarded many prizes, among them the Novi Sad October prize. .

He lives in Novi Sad. He is married and has two children.
