"Railways of Serbia" announced construction of the new bridge over Velika Morava

"Railways of Serbia" has published a tender for construction of the new bridge across Velika Morava river, on Belgrade-Nis rail track. The tender will be opened until October, 20th, as it was announced today (August, 27th, 2009) by this public company.

President of the Management Board in the Railways, Zoran Andjelkovic, stated that the bridge would be built on the rail section between Jovac and Cuprija, and it would be finaced with the credit of 80 millions euros, approved for the second project of railways' rehabilitation by the European Investment Bank.

- The new railway bridge will be built within the first stage of reconstruction works of the existing one track section Gilje-Cuprija-Paracin into a two-tracks rail, where trains would be able to reach speed up to 160 km/per hour, said Mr. Andjelkovic.

According to his words, from EIB's credit for realization of the project "Reconstruction of the railways 2", totally 93 km of rail on Corridor 10 through Serbia will be modernized.

Mr. Andjelkovic added that the new bridge over Velika Morava river would be built within works on modernization of 13,3 km long section at Cuprija.

- The works on modernization of Batajnica-Golubinci section, on Belgrade-Sid rail are already undertaken, and a total of 60 km of rail tracks between Cele tower and Stanicenje will be renovated, on the rail track Nis-Dimitrovgrad, said Zoran Andjelkovic.
