It seems that no country invests in Serbia through its citizens who live there as Hungary does. This is most reflected through the Prosperitati foundation, as more than EUR 250 million has been invested in the Serbian territory in the past three years through their projects.

Among the large investments is the factory for the processing of food in Arilje, a joint project of the local company Stanic and Horizon Food from Kecskemet, which should start operating in 2020.

A facility for the processing of fresh fruit, mostly of second or third class, not meant for retail, will be built in Arilje. The plan is to process raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, plums and sour cherries. The planned investment entails the construction of a 3,000-m2 facility. The total value of the project amounts to more than EUR 7.5 million, whereas the fruit processing and fruit pulp manufacturing line will cost EUR 4.9 million. The entire process should be realized in the first quarter of 2020.

As Balint Pasztor, the vice president of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, told Novosti, Arilje has not been chosen randomly.

– The president of Serbia asked the Government of Hungary to invest not only in Vojvodina, but also in other parts of Serbia – Pasztor said.

Another reason, Novosti writes, is that the sector of fruit processing is ruined in Serbia, freeing up the market.

According to agricultural economist Milan Prostran, large and serious domestic agricultural producers are obviously not interested in processing at the highest degree.

– Certain domestic companies have let foreigners take over this sector. The Hungarians have recognized Arilje as a good place to invest in, but it would be good if our agriculturists did something.
