As eKapija learns, the facility, whose main purpose is to improve the quality of water in the West Morava, should begin on parcels of 7 ha, which the city bought out from the Strabag company. The construction of the facility will also contribute to the improvement of the living conditions in the area and the reduction of health risks.
The value of this investment is EUR 22,562,166. Most of the funds will be provided through the IPA (EUR 16,166,083), whereas the rest of the funds will be provided by the Government of Serbia and the City of Cacak.
As we’ve learned, a preliminary design is being prepared at the moment, and the tendering procedure for the contractor should open in April 2020. The preparation of the project documentation is financed by the Swedish development agency Sida, and the implementation of the project is carried out by the Spanish company Eptisa, as the assistant to the mayor of Cacak in charge of ecology and environmental protection, Mirjana Djokovic, told eKapija.
As she said, the construction of this facility will upgrade waste water management in Cacak, especially the collection of waste waters and the securing of waste water treatment, with the aim of harmonizing with the EU Directive on the treatment of municipal waste waters.
– The main goal of this project is to improve water quality, which we will achieve by building a waste water treatment facility in the proximity of the West Morava. We will thereby reduce the amount of unfiltered industrial and municipal waste waters that are poured into the river. Also, it’s important to achieve harmonization with the national laws and the EU laws in the domain of water supply and sewer services, public health and environmental protection – Djokovic says for eKapija.
Cacak prepared a feasibility study for a waste water treatment facility within the MISP project back in 2013, and the project had been picked from the SLAP base in line with the criteria previously defined by the Supervisory Board of the MISP project.
The feasibility study was then updated by PEID, after which it was presented at the Ministry of Environmental Protection on February 8, 2019.
Parallel with the preliminary design, the preparation of which started this May, two urban plans are being amended, and the testing of the existing sewer system is in progress as well. Once the preliminary design is prepared, the city will provide location requirements.
