Nis to get multifunctional expo center on 13,500 m2 – Contest for preliminary design in August

In the upcoming period, Nis should get a modern expo Center in the Lozni Kalem location, near Niska Banja. The location is owned by the City of Nis and the planning documents envisage the construction of one such facility, the Office for Local Economic Development says for eKapija.

– The necessary project-technical documentation is currently being prepared, and the plan is for the facility to have at least 13,500 m2, of which the exhibition space would take up at least 8,100 m2. The funds for the preparation of the project-technical documentation have been set aside from the budget of the City of Nis and amount to EUR 40,600, whereas EUR 30,000 is provided by the EU through the EU PRO program – the Office says.

On behalf of the City of Nis, the Office applied for these funds. As they say, the preparations for an urban planning-architectural contest for a preliminary design for the multifunctional expo center are in progress.

– The plan is for the contest to open next month. After the best preliminary design is selected, we will be able to come out with more details about the future look and features of this facility – the Office says.

The complex which will be built in the Lozni Kalem location should provide support to the economic development of the city through new features which will enable the organization of the kind of events that Nis has not been able to organize properly so far and which therefore often take place in unsuitable facilities. The expo center should also enable the organization of various congress and fair events and conferences, both national and international.

– The complex will feature a congress section and a fair section and we believe that it will contribute to the development of tourism in Niska Banja and the city on the whole, that it will attract new investments in tourism and hotel construction, but also boost the development of the economy of Nis and the region through creating the conditions for an adequate presentation, which will contribute to the development of new markets. We expect to get representative, unique and original designs at the contest – the Office says.

After all the activities related to the preparation of the preliminary design and the project-technical documentation, the City of Nis will commence the next phase, which entails finding sources of finance and construction.

Let us remind that the City of Nis has also decided to start realizing the project of a multifunctional cultural facility in Nemanjica Blvd. The preliminary design based on which the facility is to be built was selected at a contest.

In the past years, Nis has become an increasingly interesting travel destination. Since 2013, the number of tourists and overnight stays has been constantly increasing. There are also numerous investments in tourism and infrastructure.
