PIK has presented a redesign of its meat slice products and launched them to store shelves, but also literally to the very edge of the stratosphere, to the altitude of 39,171 meters.

This is the first commercial flight to the stratosphere in Croatia. At the same time, it is a Croatian record, as this is a flight at the highest officially recorded altitude. To illustrate, passenger planes usually fly at slightly above 10 km, whereas military planes fly at an altitude of around 20 km.

Making history at 213 KM/H

Redesigned PIK slices and cameras were fastened to a special stand and then lifted into the stratosphere by a balloon with a diameter of 2 meters. The ascent took 1 hour and 33 minutes, the speed peaked at 213 km/h, and the temperature dropped to minus 60°C at certain points.

From the altitude of nearly 40 km, the stand with meat slices fastened to it returned to the Earth in 37 minutes at 650 km/h, being slowed down by a parachute. It landed successfully near Virovitica. The entire mission took 2 hours and 10 minutes and was carried out under controlled conditions and under expert supervision. The redesigned PIK slices were launched into the stratosphere by the joint efforts of BEST Wings and Pulsar Laboratories teams.

Space-like, but locally made

With the launch of PIK slices to the edge of the outer space, the redesigned PIK slice packaging was promoted, appropriately so, as the conditions in the White Room of PIK Vrbovec, where the PIK meat slices are produced and packaged, are almost space-like. At the most modern facility in this part of Europe, in highly hygienic conditions and a controlled microclimate, with special washing and disinfection programs, millions of top-quality PIK slices are packaged.

In summer months alone, 4 to 5 million packages of PIK Sunka, Mortadela, Piko, Panona, Cajna, Zimska and other products are delivered to consumers.

Space-worthy tastes

The packaging design is new, but recognizable, and the popular taste of the meat slice has remained the same. It features no flavor enhancers, artificial coloring, gluten or soy. The salt content is reduced to 25%. PIK slices remain “on top of the world” when it comes to exquisite taste and gastronomic experience.
