Huawei to become strategic partner for smart cities development in Serbia – Opening of Innovation Center for Digital Transformation planned

The Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali met with the representatives of Chinese company Huawei in Belgrade. They discussed the long-term collaboration on realization of joint projects within The Belt and Road Initiative as well as the agreement on economic and technological cooperation between the two countries.

As the Ministry of Finance stated the meeting also included talk on developing the Safe and Smart City system in which Huawei is the strategic partner for cities and local municipalities in Serbia.

Along with the exchange of information, the platform would be provided for developing local ecosystems in the fields of digital transformation in public, financial, educational and energy sectors and traffic. It was concluded in the meeting that this project should lead to considerable cost-savings which is one of the advantages of Smart cities concept.

Huawei also presented to Minister Mali the possibility for cooperation on installing a 5G network and Government Cloud system in Serbia which would combine data and communications infrastructure for all government bodies and offer applications necessary for government bodies operations.

The statement reminded that one of the principal goals of cooperation with Huawei in the future was the opening of Western Balkans Huawei Innovation Center for Digital Transformation based in Belgrade.
