The young Novi Sad-based company Foxy Voxel is showcasing its video game called Going Medieval.
– It’s a city and settlement building simulation. There are lots of visitors who come here to play it. We are also here to meet other developers of video games, as well as investors, as we are a young company and we are seeking a way to put this game on the global market – Nino Rajacic says.
Last year, video game and console developers had a turnover of USD 140 billion globally. This year, it should go up to USD 150 billion.
Serbia’s representative showcases its product in a special hall where independent games are exhibited. The companies in this category do not employ more than 50 workers and their annual turnover doesn’t exceed EUR 5 million.
Video games are no longer played by children alone. According to the German Games Industry Association, the average age of a video game player is 36.
Smartphone and tablet games have become an important sector in this industry, especially in Asia, specifically, countries like India, Indonesia or China. There’s a great interest in cloud gaming at this year’s fair.
A lot of developers no longer sell their products, offering them up for subscription instead. For example, France’s Ubisoft is offering more than 100 games for a monthly subscription from September. Electronic Arts also offers a wide range of games for a monthly subscription, among which is the popular FIFA series, whose new edition arrives in late September.
