"Majdan" in operation again – lead and zinc mine near Ljubovija back on its feet
After a ten-year agony, lead and zinc mine "Majdan" near Ljubovija is back on its feet thanks to successful privatization. Trial production started in June, and the new owner invested 3.5m EUR in preparation of refurbishment of mining shafts.
The mine currently has 220 workers, 150 of whom work in the shaft. They monthly dig about 4,500 tons of ore, which is on the level of the production in the best days. Average salary of the miners who work in the shaft is 35,000 RSD.
According to the data provided by the Business Registry Agency, 44% of the company’s capital is owned by British "Mineco Limited", Cypriot "Metexcel Trading Limited" owns 22%, while 34% is in the possession of company "Gross" in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
