Last Thursday (September 26, 2019), the Constanta Port Day, the event organized by the Serbian office of the National Company Maritime Ports Administration S.A. Constanta, was held in Belgrade for the thirteenth time.
In the past years, Belgrade has become a place of gathering of the most important transport, logistics and agribusiness companies on this date.
The Constanta Port Day Conference has caused a lot of interest among the Serbian companies from this field. Year after year, the number of participants increases, with over 240 attending this year's event.
Representatives of the Danube ports in Serbia – Pancevo, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Backa Palanka, Tomi Trade (Smederevo), Prahovo, Bogojevo – and Croatia (Osijek and Vukovar), but also boat companies, agents and control houses, as well as representatives of the Serbian Ministry of Transport, Construction and Infrastructure and the Embassy of Romania, came to meet with the management of the Port of Constanta.
The management of the Port of Constanta was followed by a delegation of representatives of the largest port operators: Chimpex, Comvex, TTS, Socep and Sea Container Services, who are very interested in establishing business connections with Serbian partners in this field.
– Since last year’s event in Serbia, the connections with our partners have strengthened and we have been continuously considering the potential of the flows of goods between the two regions and new ways to improve the cooperation relations. At the same time, there were many Serbian companies which have visited us, wishing to get to know directly the potential of the port. Now, as you know, we are coming to Belgrade in order to strengthen the connections between the representatives of the port of Constanta and the Serbian business environment and to find new partners – stated Daniela Serban, general manager of Maritime Ports Administration.
(Oana Cristina Popa, Ambassador of Romania to Serbia) The Ambassador of Romania to Serbia, Oana Cristina Popa, recommended for the tradition of promoting the Port of Constanta in Serbia to continue, because, as she said, “this considerably contributes to the enhancement and growth of Romanian-Serbian trade relations”.
The importance of the Danube for the two countries was emphasized. Serbia's foreign trade through river traffic had increased by 30% and doubled compared to five years before.
The potential of cargo transport between the Port of Constanta and Serbia is also shown by the data recorded in the first half of 2019, when the total amount of goods transported between the two regions doubled. If the total traffic between the Port of Constanta and Serbia amounted to slightly over two million tons in the first half of 2018, at the end of the same period of 2019, it exceeded 4.6 million tons.
Goods from Serbia in transition through the Port of Constanta have Italy, Spain, Russia, Holland, Tunisia, Lebanon, Egypt, South Korea, Jordan, Georgia and Turkey as the final destinations. Grains are still dominant, but there's also a considerable share of mineral fertilizers and equipment.
(Daniela Serban, general manager of Maritime Ports Administration) Serbian companies are important partners in the future development of this Romanian port, and the Constanta Port Day in Belgrade helps partners in the region to develop and upgrade their operations using the advantages of this port on the Black Sea and to contribute to the expansion of Romanian-Serbian bilateral relations in maritime and intermodal transport. Following the event, the representative of the Port of Constanta in Belgrade, Vladan Misic, said that he was very proud that the event had been the most visited one until then.
– This confirms that there is a lot of interest in cooperation on both sides and that gives us strength to keep organizing the Constanta Port Day each year, adapting the contents of the conference to the current issues we, as well as partners from Serbia, face in the market every day. I thank everyone who was with us today. Finally, let me repeat: from an economic stand, to Serbia, the Port of Constanta means access to the sea – Misic said.
