No matter how much the specific needs of transporters are different from each other, there's one common thing: the need to be as efficient as possible. In an era of growing competition in the market, there's a lot of talk about saving in all fields, and one of the most important factors contributing to increased efficiency is time saving.

VDO uses information and telecommunications technologies to enable transporters and drivers to comply with the law in an easy and reliable fashion, while also increasing the time the vehicle spends moving, thereby automatically increasing its efficiency. Tahograf BG, the only authorized representative of this German producer for the markets of Serbia and Montenegro brings this kind of technology to local transporters.

The device in question is DLD Wide Range II, a hardware component which is connected to a digital tachograph, which sends data from the tachograph's memory and the information off the driver's card to the office without the vehicle needing to stop.

The data are then archived without the involvement of the transporters and the drivers: the process of downloading and sending the data is fully automated and is carried out even when the vehicle is moving. After the device is installed (which takes around 80 minutes), the drivers no longer have to do anything regarding the downloading of the data on the device itself or the tachograph.

Data download is carried out periodically, in line with a pre-agreed schedule chosen by the transporter (the rules say that the data need to be downloaded at least once in 28 days from the driver's card and once in 90 days from the tachograph), regardless of whether the vehicle is located in the territory of Serbia or abroad.

The DLD device sends data in the proscribed format (DDD) directly to the TIS-Web software, where they are archived and processed, after which reports and records on the driver's working hours, proscribed by law, are prepared based on them.
This way, the transporter uses technological advantages to reduce its costs in several ways.

The most obvious way is that time and fuel are not spent in periodically arriving to the set location for the reading-out, which also means that vehicles don't have to be still while the downloading is taking place. Instead, they are spending as much time as possible in the transportation process itself.

Also, transporters can get up-to-date data on the driver's working hours on a daily level, which enables an efficient use of the remaining working hours, but also directing the vehicle and the driver. This way, the transporter makes sure that the regulations are being complied with when this kind of information is not available to the driver.

The use of modern technology which automates processes enables a proper recording of working hours and precise archiving, which reduces administrative tasks and drastically reduces the possibility of fines on the road and in the transporter's premises.

It is these savings that can make a big difference between profitable operations and losses, as agreed in a survey by over 120 transporters – clients of Tahograf BG which use the DLD device and download data this way.
