The Nord Stream 2 project designed to deliver Russian natural gas to Germany and other European customers will start working in the middle of next year, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said on Thursday.

He gave no other details about the exact date of the pipeline’s launch, RT reports.

Earlier, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak told reporters that gas deliveries via the undersea pipeline could start in the coming months.

So far, more than 80% of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, which will transport Russian gas by pipes laid down on the bottom of the Baltic Sea to Germany, has been completed.

The project should be completed by the end of 2019.

Gazprom CEO Aleyex Miller said earlier that, after Copenhagen finally gave the green light for the pipeline to pass through its territorial waters, it would take around five weeks for the project to be completed.

Denmark gave the approval on October 30, removing the last big obstacle to the completion of the Russian gas project.
