Plum brandy from Serbia one of three most perfect strong alcoholic drinks

Ninoslav Nikicevic, a professor at the Faculty of Agriculture in Belgrade, is nicknamed a “plum brandy doctor”, as he acquired a PhD studying the aromatic elements of the Pozegaca plum variety and the plum brandy made from this variety. He has spent his whole career studying this subject and is one of the most reputable and demanded experts in this field in Europe.

Nikicevic was a member of the International Commission for Sensory Assessment of the Quality of Strong Alcoholic Drinks at the Croagro show, where the plum brandy from Serbia won first prize.

He says that, in assessing the drink, he first takes two whiffs, tastes the drink two times and, if the drink is very old and very good, swallows a little bit as a rule. Although he has been active in this field for decades, he says that he has been drunk only a few times in his whole life.

He claims that the plum brandy from Serbia and the Balkans is definitely one of the three most perfect strong alcoholic drinks.

– I'd certainly put the French cognac there, as well as certain Scotch malt whiskeys. There's calvados, a specific apple brandy, and Armagnac, also a drink of high quality – Nikicevic says and adds:

– If we're talking about the brandies that can be found in our market, there are some good ones, but sometimes the producers don't take care of the sensory quality, so there are artificial aromas and added sugar.
