The most favorable bid on the tender for construction of the bypass around Dimitrovgrad, the highway to border crossing Gradina, 5.8 km long, and seven bridges on that route has been submitted by Austrian "Alpina", which has offered the lowest price of 2.9 billion RSD.

Total of 12 companies took part in the race for construction of these two sections of the east branch of Corridor 10. On the occasion of yesterday's (November 24, 2009) opening of the bids, the tender commission ranked all other bidders in the following order: Slovenian SCT - 3.2 billion RSD, Croatian "Konstruktor" - 3 billion RSD, Slovenian "Primorje" - 3.4 billion RSD, the consortium comprising local road maintenance companies "Planum", PZP "Beograd" and "Putevi" from Užice - 3.7 billion RSD, while the most expensive was Austrian "Strabag" with the price of 5 billion RSD.

Other participants in the public auction were "Hidroelektro" from Croatia, GD "Granit" from Macedonia, "Cooperativa muratori cementisti" from Italy, "Terna" from Italy, "JV trejs – Stanilov" from Bulgaria and consortium "Millenium road" comprising "Interkop", "Porr" and "Energoprojekt".

- The procedure has been carried out according to the rules of the World Bank, and we will know in one or two months which of them has submitted the best bid - Tanjug published the explanation by unnamed member of the tender commission.

When it was announced in summer 2009, the tender drew big attention of the building companies from all around Europe. The project documentation was bought by about 30 potential contractors, but only 12 of them submitted the bids with the paid guarantee of 700,000 EUR per section.

The money for construction - about 275.2m EUR - has been provided by the World Bank. That money will also be used for construction of tunnels "Progon" and "Pržojna padina", but the public invitation for collecting the bids was canceled at the beginning of November because additional processing of the project documentation was necessary. It is expected that all dilemmas concerning the construction of the most complex section of that junction will be resolved in a very short time, and that the new tender for construction of tunnels will be announced in three months at the latest.

The bypass around Dimitrovgrad should be finished in the first half of year 2012.
