Halal Tourism Services standard published

In early 2020, the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) published the “OIC/SMIIC 9:2019, Halal Tourism Services – General Requirements” standard.

All requirements defined in the standard are generic and intended to be applicable to all organizations and individuals managing HTS.

OIC/SMIIC 9 provides guidelines and requirements for managing halal tourism facilities, products and services for travelers in accommodation premises, tour packages, tourist guides and, other services and facilities such as catering, restaurants…etc..

On the other hand OIC/SMIIC 9 gives guidance to the organizations regarding management responsibility, the requirements of the personnel involved in HTS as well.

The carrier of the activities of preparing OIC/SMIIC 9 is the Agency for Halal Quality Certification in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the agency announced.

One of the reference documents for the preparation of the standard was the Guide for Halal Certification of Tourist and Hospitality Facilities, which has been implemented in the area covered by the agency since 2010.

The quality of the new standard is shown by the praise the agency has been given by the SMIIC and its members.

In the capacity of the representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Agency for Halal Quality Certification has been actively participating in the activities of various technical committees of the SMIIC since the latter's founding.

The technical committees prepare and adopt halal standards in their fields of competence.
