An increase in the transport of goods on the inland waterways to a total of 18% compared to other types of transport is expected in the upcoming years, and to achieve this goal, it is necessary to upgrade the transport infrastructure on the inland waterway network, primarily on the Danube, the Sava and the Tisa. Accordingly, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has opened a public procurement procedure for the preparation of technical documentation for the expansion of the capacity of the Port of Bogojevo.

The projected additional capacities of the Port of Bogojevo and the expansion of the range of port services offered by the port should enable the reloading and storage of at least 600,000 tons of various agricultural products, by which this port will meet the requirements for being included in the TEN-T Core Network of river ports.

Bids may be submitted by March 26, 2020, and more about the tender can be found HERE.

The expansion of the capacities of the Port of Bogojevo, through the construction of the port logistics center, that is, storage facilities for bulk cargo (gravel and sand) and general cargo, new grain silos, mineral fertilizers and oil plants, as well as the accompanying infrastructure, which entails an industrial railway of 2.5 km and its connecting with the national railway network, and the construction of another vertical wharf should enable the valorization of the port's favorable geographic position, primarily through specializing it for the reloading and storage of grains, oil plants and mineral fertilizers.

– Considering the increasing need for the use of containers in transporting grains, a small capacity container terminal needs to be built at the port. Also, keeping in mind the lack of storage capacities, that is, oil and oil product reservoirs, the plan is to build an oil and oil product terminal at the port, including a smaller bunker station for supplying ships with fuel – the documentation says.

The Port of Bogojevo is located on the left coast of the Danube and is 40 km away from the E75 highway (Belgrade-Budapest). The port is of an open type, with an aquatorium of 12 meters in depth. The total length of the vertical wharf is only 167 m, and a recently built part of the wharf, 90 meters long, is used for reloading.

The most common types of goods at the port are grains and artificial fertilizers, and in the past five years, the amount of goods reloaded annually is between 200,000 and 350,000 tons. Considering the demand, the reloading could amount to around 500,000 tons, but the lack of infrastructure makes this impossible.
