First quantities of copper from Novo Cerovo mine expected in early June

Zijin Bor Copper has started the stripping of the Novo Cerovo copper mine, the third mine within this complex, whose capacity is estimated at two and a half million tons of ore a year and whose exploitation period is projected at seven years.

Assistant General Manager Hu Shaohua announces that the first quantities of copper from the mine are expected in early June and reminds that the company has been continuously upgrading the mining production since October 2019.

– In line with Serbia's laws, after all the required permits and licenses were obtained, access roads were built, mechanization was procured and around 200 new young people were employed – Zijin Bor Copper says.

Novo Cerovo consists of a surface cut and a part where the the grinding will be carried out and the ore will be hydro-transported to the Krivelj flotation. The grinders, the hydro-transport system and the aggregate control system are therefore being revitalized.

– Instead of the old primary grinder, we now have a new jaw grinder, and a tertiary grinder has been ordered as well, for the purpose of finer processing – Hu Shaohua says.

Zijin Bor Copper plans to process the first quantities of the oxide ore in mid-May and carry out a flotation experiment which should show the efficiency of getting metal out of the ore.

The revival of the production at Cerovo, Shaohua emphasizes, is a great turning point in increasing the production of copper and a substantial progress for the company in the first quarter of 2020.
