Film About Old Belgrade on Yugoslav Film Archive's YouTube Channel

The digitally restored documentary Belgrade, the Capital of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (Beograd, prestonica Kraljevine Jugoslavije), produced in 1932, can be viewed on the official YouTube channel of the Yugoslav Film Archive. This is the most important film about Belgrade in the interwar period, and its duration is 56 minutes.

The director and the screenwriter is Vojin Djordjevic (1897-1985), a famous journalist, photographer and film historian. Josip Novak and Anton Hari Smeh were the cameramen, and the film was produced by Jugoslovenski prosvetni film, a company which filmed numerous travel movies about Yugoslavia in the 1930s.

– This film shows, in its entirety, the life, the creation, the outlooks, the history and the beauty of our capital, the contemporary press wrote. A series of images shows various looks and parts of the city, monumental edifices, the traffic, parks, highlights and monuments, street life, interesting features, picnic spots, wharves, events, sport life, works on modernization of the capital and so on – the Yugoslav Film Archive says on its website.

The digital copy, on which the experts of the Yugoslav Film Archive worked for several months, premiered in 2016 at the Pordenone Silent Film Festival in Italy. The Serbian audience could see it as part of the Fest Classic 2017 program and at the Yugoslav Film Archive.

The Yugoslav Film Archive will continue uploading works from its substantial collection on YouTube.
