A platform for quick messaging through medical systems in crisis situations, a software solution of the Belgrade-based company Heliant, will become available to over 30,000 medical workers in state institutions in Serbia in about ten days.

This has been confirmed for eKapija by Vukasin Radulovic, a co-founder of this domestic IT company, which develops software and is the most recognizable for its e-health and e-help products.

Heliant's solution is one of the 12 innovative projects financed by the Innovation Fund.

– Our software, HERMES (Heliant Real-time Messaging System), a system for a real-time exchange of data, has existed for over 20 years and is used in over 200 hospitals in Serbia, at the level of individual institutions. This is in fact an electronic medical chart involving over 30,000 health workers in the state sector in Serbia. Our innovative idea was to upgrade HERMES so that all our institutions would be able to have their doctors consult among themselves, to have important regulations, medicine lists and similar documents forwarded to them and for everyone to get those documents at the same time. In the past 5-10 years, this has become more practical than emails, as many health institutions in many locations do not even have an internet connection, for security reasons – Radulovic explains.

He notes that many institutions that are on the first line of defense against Covid-19 are Heliant's users, such as the Clinic for Infectious Diseases of the Clinical Center of Serbia, the Dragisa Misovic Hospital, the Clinical-Hospital Center Zvezdara and others.

According to our interviewee, this new platform will now be available to all the important actors in the defense against coronavirus.

– We will provide access to HERMES to crisis groups, the government, the Public Health Institute, the National Health Insurance Fund, so, in addition to the regular channels of communication, they will now be able to get information in a second – Radulovic says.

Next week, he adds, they will launch a prototype in cooperation with one of those institutions, and the platform should become available everywhere in around ten days.

Radulovic points out that the company's team is working on another useful idea.

– We have launched the idea to connect the Virology Laboratory at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases so that all the other clinics within the Clinical Center of Serbia can share data with it electronically, which would reduce physical contact where it is not necessary – our interviewee said.
