Citizens of Hungary and Serbia can cross the border from today if they work or own farming land on the other side of the border, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced on his Facebook profile.

The crossing is enabled on three border crossings – Roszke (Horgos), Tompa (Kelebija) and Hercegszanto (Backi Breg), he said, as reported by RTS.

Szijjarto emphasized that this was the result of an agreement with Serbian officials, at the request of members of the parliament and a large number of citizens in both countries. Foreign ministers Ivica Dacic and Peter Szijjarto will meet this afternoon at the Horgos border crossing.

Let us remind that Dacic said yesterday that the Government of Serbia had adopted the decision to enable border crossing for people living in border areas and who work or have farming land across the border.

Dacic said that the decision had been made primarily for Hungary, but that it would also apply for border areas with other countries.

According to him, a full opening of the borders is not yet on the agenda, but is being discussed.
