Russia, the world's biggest exporter of grains, is to stop exporting several types of grains until July 1, the country's agriculture ministry announced.

In early April, Russia decided to limit the export of grains to seven million tons until June 30, which was criticized by multinational organizations such as FAO, the World Trade Organization and the World Health Organization, which expressed fears that the restrictions during the pandemic could lead to food shortages.

However, the quotas are now fully exhausted, the Russian ministry said in a press release and added that the export of grains would be stopped until July 1, 2020.

Russia is the world's biggest exporter of grains and one of the main producers and exporters of grains in the world.

In mid-March, the Russian government announced that it planned to implement restrictions on the export of certain food products due to the pandemic, in order to secure the stability of the national market.

This decision could raise the already high prices of grains in the world, AFP writes.
