Air Travel to Require Negative Coronavirus Testing, Isolation After Landing

Anyone who wants to travel by air will have to have tested negatively for coronavirus within the past 72 hours and must go into isolation after the landing, Zorana Mihajlovic, Serbia Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, said today.

The minister said on TV Prva that safety measures, in line with medical doctors' recommendations, will be implemented in the field of passenger air traffic.

She appealed to the citizens to be cautious and not buy tickets offered by some low cost companies, as the the state has not issued any kind of authorization for the resumption of air travel.

– In order for any aircraft to take off or land at our airport, there needs to be an authorization by the ministry and the Civil Aviation Directorate. No such authorizations have been issued so far and it is very risky to buy tickets now, as it's not certain when the flights are to start – Mihajlovic explained.

Mihajlovic confirmed that the country was ready for the air transport to be reinstated, but that it would only happen in agreement with Europe, as no passenger flights were carried out at the moment.

– Our planes, crews and airports are ready, but flights will start in agreement with Europe. According to some recommendations, it should happen between May 15 and 18 – she specified.

According to her, air transport has suffered everywhere in the world, and the damage in Europe is estimated at EUR 160 billion, whereas, in Serbia, so far, it is close to EUR 30 million.
