Nationalization of Air Serbia Possible

Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic has announced the possibility of nationalization of Air Serbia. When asked during her interview on TV Prva how the state could help this company, which is incurring losses, she said that the entire transport sector was experiencing serious problems.

– We will see whether additional aircraft will be procured and there will be talks about potentially buying out our shares from Etihad. There are several possibilities. It has now been shown how important it is to have a national airline. Air Serbia has done a very important job, and it is now up to the state to provide it with conditions to continue operating as a commercial company. In the past few years, Air Serbia has increased the number of destinations to over 40 and increased its income – the minister said.

As for the company's losses, the minister says that, at the moment, the minus is at around EUR 30 million, and the estimates say that there will be at least as much by the end of the year.

She says that, in Europe, the estimate is that the air transport will suffer a damage of EUR 150 billion.
