In order for the Austrian investor to initiate the production of steering wheels for cars in Bela Palanka, the local self-government has started reconstructing the facility of the former factory FEMID, which will be given to the Austrian investor to use over a period of three years. The president of the municipality, Goran Miljkovic, has announced that the works will take around two and a half months, after which the production is to start.

The facility will be given without a public auction procedure to the Austrian company TGM Services, headquartered in Schladming, which has founded a daughter company TGRS in Bela Palanka. According to earlier announcements, the production of steering wheels should start in June.

The Austrian company will create jobs here, and the municipality has obliged to repair the dilapidated facility. The job, which will be financed with the citizens' money, is worth nearly RSD 100 million and was awarded at the tendering procedure to a Nis-based consortium of three companies – Viners, Pro Metan and Kvadel.

The new factory will produce steering wheels and other components for world car manufacturers, Miljkovic says. In the second phase of the investment, the Austrian company will build a factory in the industrial zone Murica 1, where, according to his announcement's, 250 new workers should be employed.

According to him, that should take place by the end of next year, and, as he says, the local authorities are having intensive negotiations with other investors, as there's 8.5 hectares of available land in the industrial zone Murica 1.

Let us remind that the buildings of the former FEMID factory are owned by the local self-government.
