CADEZ: CCIS Preparing New Measures for Additional Help to Economy

(Marko Cadez) The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS), Marko Cadez, has announced that this institution is preparing new economic measures it will propose to the Government of Serbia so as to provide additional help to the economy aiming to mitigate the consequences of the coronavirus epidemic.

– Entrepreneurs, micro, small and medium enterprises were able to survive with the state measures implemented so far, but those measures are to expire soon, and the CCIS is now preparing new ones, which it will aim to present to the Government of Serbia as soon as possible – Cadez said at the Sixth International Conference “The World After Coronavirus”, held within the Belgrade Strategic Dialogue.

He also said that the new measures would be designed so that banks and companies would not experience problems once the economic measures from April expire.

– We need to aim for new measures and can't afford to wait, because, before they pay taxes, company owners need to feed their families – Cadez said.

According to him, the state reacted quickly and efficiently to maintain economic activities by adopting these economic measures, even though, as he says, it was difficult at the moment, as the priorities were human lives, hospitals, respirators...

– Of course, the Government of Serbia was dedicated to stopping the epidemic, because, if that goes on too long and is not stopped on time, there's no economy – Cadez said and added that the CCIS was working on maintaining the essence of economic activities.

He pointed out that there had been many discussions about this with epidemiologists and added that the epidemiology situation and the economic activities were two opposing concepts.

Coronavirus, he added, brought a lot of uncertainty and new circumstances. He reminded that the implementation of the moratorium was the first one.

– This was new for banks, not to mention other sectors, such as transport, and how hard we worked to keep the traffic of goods through the region and the EU, with drivers being quarantined and us trying to implement measures whereby they would be exempt from it... – Cadez said about the impact of the coronavirus epidemic on the economy.

According to him, 2,000 companies from the production sector either completely stopped producing or reduced the volume of production at the moment, and two thirds of them are now back to operating at full capacity.
