Spatial Plan of Morava Airport up for Public Review – State Projects Great Potential of This Airport

The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia has announced an early public review on the occasion of the preparation of the Spatial Plan of the special purpose area of the mixed military-civilian Morava Airport.

The plan, which covers around 61 km2, as said, pertains to “the reconstruction and modernization of the Morava Airport to the end of securing the conditions for the expansion of the airport's capacity and an improvement of the traffic connection and increasing national security in the defense domain”.

– The vision and the long-term goal of the development and the adoption of the plan is to secure spatial conditions for the economic development of the region, which will be achieved through extension, reconstruction and modernization of the Morava Airport – the documentation says.

This, it is added, will improve the overall accessibility, security, environmental sustainability and competitiveness of the region and the connection of air transport with other forms of transport and make a larger number of services of air transport more available to the populace, while also securing uninterrupted functioning of the country's defense infrastructure.

The plan therefore aims to determine the state of the complex, to systematize spatial changes, including the separation of the military from the civilian part, and to carry out a planned equipping with infrastructure, reserve space for the forming of a new runway, new goods-cargo terminal capacities, reconstruct the existing traffic routes and define new connections.
