In cooperation with the City of Novi Sad, as the region's carrier for waste management, the designing has been completed, and the construction of the facility is being prepared, the press release says.
The facility is being built within the PUE “Zelenilo” Novi Sad and will be a part of the future regional center for waste management.
Green waste from public areas, such as garden waste, grass and tree branches, will be treated at the facility.
The compost produced that way will be used for maintenance of city greenery. The construction of a hangar for the storage of the prepared compost and the equipment has been completed, and the tendering procedure for the establishment of a compost field is in progress, the press release adds.
The project realizes the activities directed at upgrading the waste management system at 17 local self-governments within three waste management regions.
The press release also says that professional help is being provided in the preparation and reviewing of the regional and local plans of waste management in line with the principles of circular economy, which are the basis for an upgrade of the current waste management system.
The plans are created based on previous research of the composition of the municipal waste, carried out by the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad.
An important aspect of the technical support of the project pertains to the treatment of biodegradable waste, whereby the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is reduced, thereby also reducing the greenhouse effect and helping fight the global warming.
