Assistant Minister Irina Reljin told Tanjug that mobile operators were already contacting the ministry, asking for the sale of the frequency range for the new services to be carried out.
She says that the 4G network covers 98% of the population in Serbia, that most services can be covered with the technology, but that, in the case of the sale of the frequency range, the network is expanded and there are efforts to introduce a new technology.
Reljin says that 4G is a relatively old technology and that an auction for 5G, initially planned to take place by the end of 2020, is expected to open.
– In order to maintain the quality of the mobile service, operators need a wider frequency range, so it's logical that a new technology is being implemented – Reljin said.
The 5G network is being implemented everywhere in the world, she says, and in some parts of the world, such as South Korea, it was developed a long time ago, whereas the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, the USA and Slovenia are expanding their networks.
– Japan has prepared a strategy for the implementation of 6G. By the end of 2030, the country will have 6G in its entire territory – Reljin said.
