Pionir Ice Rink Reconstruced, Facade Repair Plans Abandoned – Iceskating to be Also Available in Summer

The season of ice sports has begun at the reconstructed Pionir Ice Rink. In the past months, it has been renovated, the seats have been replaced, along with the safety glass fence, and the locker rooms have been reconstructed as well.

According to the deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, the ice-making machines have been replaced as well.

– The new ones enable the ice to be preserved even when the external temperature is 40 degrees Celsius. This didn't use to be possible before, and it now enables the ice sports season to be extended to accommodate the interests of clubs and recreational athletes – said Vesic, as reported by Beoinfo.

Let us remind that the Sports Center Tasmajdan opened the public procurement procedure for the repair of the facade of the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall, the replacement of the fence and the development of the locker rooms at the Ice Rink this February. However, the project of repairing the facade and the carpentry has been abandoned due to, as said, “the difficult financial situation due to lowered revenues as a consequence of coronavirus”. Only the stairs have been repaired. Accordingly, the initial contract value of RSD 189.98 million has been reduced by 13.79 million.

The changes made to the public procurement contract were approved by the supervisory organ of RS Trem and the contractor, Lotex Group.
