The Zitounija association has filed an initiative for the amendment of the trade agreement with Turkey in the section pertaining to this sector and for a quota of 10,000 tons to be approved for the export of human-consumption flour from Serbia to that country.

As Zdravko Sajatovic, the director of Zitounija, told Politika, this would be a value “equivalent to the average annual duty-free import of milling equipment from Turkey to our country”. The local milling sector, he says, is in an increasingly difficult position, because the export of flour to other states is dropping, so the opening of this country’s market, as a kind of reciprocity, would be useful for the producers and the entire sector.

– The quantities we propose would not jeopardize the Turkish production of flour. Our participation in the total consumption of this product in that state would amount to only 1.7 per mil, which is negligible – he pointed out.
