The construction of the Balkan Stream gas pipeline has been completed and the preparations for its commissioning are in progress, the Bulgarian daily Trud reports, citing the project developer, Bulgartransgaz.

The process of technical acceptance and obtaining of the working permit from the competent state organs is in progress, so that the Balkan Stream would also become officially operational, TASS reports.

This pipeline is an extension of the TurkStream gas pipeline through the Bulgarian territory, whereby, according to the official documents, the infrastructure for the transport of Russian gas is expanded.

The TurkStream gas pipeline, which was put into operation on January 8, stretches from Russia through the Black Sea to Turkey, further diverging by land to the borders with the neighboring countries – Serbia and Greece.

Gas is already exported to Greece, Bulgaria and North Macedonia through this pipeline. The delivery of gas to Serbia and Hungary will start once the entire infrastructure is built. The length of the Bulgarian leg is 474 km.
