MIHAJLOVIC: Reform of EPS to begin, fully independent operator from May 1 as well

Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic has stated that the government has adopted the decision which enables reforms at Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) and creates the conditions for the beginning of the operations of an independent distribution system operator by May 1, 2021, according to a press release by the Ministry of Mining and Energy.

Mihajlovic said that, by transferring the property and the employees within the distribution system of the PE EPS to EPS Distribucija, the conditions are being created for “getting a fully independent operator of the distribution system”.

– In addition to harmonizing EPS Distribucija with the Law on Energy and getting the license from the Energy Agency for the activity it carries out, this process is important for the better control of the costs and the reduction of losses within the distribution network – the minister said.

In addition to the transfer of the property and the employees from the Technical Center of the PE EPS to the operator of the distribution system (ODS), the adopted plan also entails the transfer of the share in EPS Distribucija from the PE EPS to the Republic of Serbia, the issuing of a license and the harmonization of the acts of EPS Distribucija.
