The plan is to raise the total capacities to over 5,000 MW, of which the exporting capacities will be increased to 2,800 MW and importing to 3,000 MW, Agerpress reports.
In early 2020, the total importing-exporting cross-border capacities of Romania amounted to around 2,200 MW, Transelectrica says in its press release.
Through a thorough investment program, which the company will carry out in the next five years, cross-border capacities will more than double, which will enable the development of connected electricity markets on a European level and contribute to the achievement of the goals defined in the EU programs “Internal Electricity Market” and “Clean Energy for All Europeans”.
– The strengthening of the power distribution network, with an accent on increasing interconnective capacities, is one of the priority tasks that we are working on. We have substantial investments that will contribute to the doubling of cross-border capacities by January 1, 2026, which is in line with the European requirements. The aim is to raise the capacities to over 5,000 MW – said Catalin Nitu, the CEO of Transelectrica.
