When it comes to the production of energy sources, flexible and efficient logistics are important, and the location of the Prahovo Industrial-Chemical Park provides several economical and attractive advantages. These are, primarily, a direct connection with the Hydro Power Plant Djerdap II, as a big resource for the production of electrical energy from renewable resources, without harmful CO2 emissions.
Another advantage is the location on the Danube, and with that the very important pumping station and the already built infrastructure.
– ICPP is directly connected by railway, road traffic and river routes to the Port of Prahovo, which we operate. This way, green hydrogen is quickly available to regional and global markets. In the future, the European strategy also projects the transport of hydrogen, as gas, through the existing gas network. As the connecting of ICPP with the international gas pipeline is planned by the end of the year, we are covering that logistics option as well – Predojevic says.
Decarbonization is defined by the Paris Agreement, and hydrogen, produced from RES, is an important energy source in the global production of green energy.
– Green hydrogen has a key role in achieving one of the goals of sustainable development – neutralizing CO2 by 2050. The environmental impact is a drastic reduction of harmful emissions, which contributes a lot to the improvement of environmental protection. Green hydrogen can fully replace fossil fuels that are the main source of harmful CO2 emissions, and green hydrogen does not emit CO2 and does not create almost any air pollution when used. Sustainable production of hydrogen is the vision of Europe and the whole world – our interviewee points out.
Where green hydrogen is used
Green hydrogen is used as a fuel and the possibilities of use are numerous – as fuel in passenger cars, freight vehicles, trains and ships, for heating systems – which are set up for the use of hydrogen, and of course in the industry – for example, in steel mills, where hydrogen can replace coke. This substantially reduces the CO2 emission in the production of steel.
– It also needs to be kept in mind that the production of hydrogen will be part of the Energy Development Strategy of our country until 2050, as recently pointed out at the online conference Green Industrial Policy. At the initiative of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, in cooperation with the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Energy, the draft of the future strategy of energy development in our country will define the possibilities of the production of this energy source in Serbia – says Predojevic.
