Lafarge Ultra Series: Sprayed Concrete, specially adapted for works in tunnels, is applied on the Stara Pazova-Novi Sad railway section as part of the construction of the Cortanovci Tunnel. The selection of the Lafarge concrete from the Ultra Series of special concretes enables a quick execution of all the support works, with a considerable reduction of the technical limitations and improved construction site safety. The high level of firmness, easy installation, good ductility, and at the same time a high degree of adhesion of concrete to various bases all make the Sprayed Concrete the best choice for all underground and construction works. In addition to the construction of tunnels, this specific type of concrete is recommended for sealing works in building reservoirs, as well as for the stabilization of stone walls, slopes and embankments.

The quality and the performances of the Ultra Series: Sprayed Concrete are also confirmed by its presence in other capital projects, such as the bypass route around Belgrade for the construction of the Strazevice tunnel, the Milos Veliki highway for the works on the Brancic tunnel etc.

During the construction of the Stara Pazova-Novi Sad section within the project of reconstruction and modernization of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, over 200,000 m3 of concrete from the Lafarge concrete base stationed in Beska was installed. This production location is operational 24/7 under all weather conditions, in order to meet the demanding dynamics of the projects.

The reconstruction, that is, the modernization of the Belgrade-Budapest railway will drastically change the image of the railway infrastructure in these areas, since the projected train speed, following the reconstruction, on certain sections, such as the section between Belgrade and Novi Sad, will be up to 200 km/h, putting the local railway infrastructure in the rank of the most modern ones.

The tunnel and the viaduct in Cortanovci, on the slopes of Fruska Gora, comprise the biggest and the most expensive structure on the railway’s route. The complex in Cortanovci consists of a tunnel with two tubes with a total length of 2,240 meters (1,150 meters and 1,090 meters), as well as two viaduct structures with a total length of 5,931 meters (2,936 meters and 2,995 meters). The works are carried out by the Russian company RZD International. The total value of the reconstruction of the railway on the Stara Pazova-Novi Sad stretch, 40.44 kilometers long, is USD 585 million, of which the value of the Cortanovci complex alone is USD 338 million. The completion of the works on the section to Novi Sad is expected at the end of 2021.
