Before, the date of the contest of the heaviest and the longest pumpkins was the first weekend in October, and now the program has been moved to a month earlier. The reason is the epidemic and the organizers’ fear that the measures against the spreading of the coronavirus might become stricter, as reported by Vecernje Novosti.
This three-day tourist-hospitality event begins on Friday with various expert lectures on the growing of pumpkins and live performances of ethnic and classical music in unique environments, such as the “Terra” studio, where sculptors from all over the world create unique shapes from terracotta, and the “Suvaca” facility – one of the only two remaining horse-powered mills in Europe. The central event is scheduled for Saturday. In the early morning hours, the contest in making various pumpkin dishes begins. All the culinary skills and imagination in preparing and arranging hot and cold, sweet and savory pumpkin dishes are displayed here, as emphasized on the Kikinda Turizam website.
This will be followed by the big final, when the expert jury measures the heaviest and the longest pumpkins.
