The bridge on the river Sava which connects BiH and Croatia has been opened by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zoran Tegetlija, and the prime minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic.

After the opening of the bridge, the new border checkpoint Svilaj will also be handed over for use, creating the preconditions for international passenger traffic.

BiH financed its part of the project from its own budget, and, according to the construction agreement, the value of the works is EUR 22,308,022 without the VAT.

The cross-border bridge Svilaj is part of the section of Corridor 5C whose construction was financed by the EU with EUR 24.5 million in grants through the Western Balkans Investment Fund, as well as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank with EUR 67 million in loans, as announced earlier by the EU Delegation.

The bridge on the Sava is also the contact point of the highway networks of Croatia and BiH.

The construction of the bridge started in September 2016.
