Vucic: We will try to finish the repair of B1 block at TENT by December in order to reduce the price of electricity

The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has stated that the situation with energy is “terrible” and that there will be efforts to finish the overhaul of the B1 block at the Thermal Power Plant “Nikola Tesla” (TENT) by December, so as to increase the production by 650 MW and lower the price of electricity.

– We will try to finish the B1 block at TENT before December, so as to increase our production by 650 MW, to lower the price of electricity. As for the price of gas, negotiations with the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, which are uncertain, are upcoming – Vucic told the press following the opening of the Cukaru Peki mine in Bor.

According to him, at the moment, in the market, the price of electricity in Serbia is EUR 229 per MW, whereas the lowest prices in Europe, below EUR 100 per MW in the market, are in Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.

He pointed out that it was good that Serbia was better prepared than everyone else in the region, “so the consequences will be milder here”.

– Gold reserves have tripled, which provides financial stability in the future and helps dampen sudden impacts – Vucic said.

Negotiations about cement prices

He also said that the state was talking with cement factories in the country about their plan to increase their prices by 30% from January 1, 2022.

According to him, there are also talks with EPS to see whether they can provide special electricity prices for cement factories, so that their price increase would not exceed 15%.

He pointed out that this was also important due to the state’s planned construction of road corridors.
