The Secretariat for Environmental Protection of the City of Belgrade has advertised a public review of the request for the deciding on the necessity of an environmental impact assessment for the project of the production facility of Nestle PBMS in Surcin, filed by the company Nestle Adriatic S doo Beograd.

According to the project prepared by the New Belgrade-based company D.A. Dizajn Arhitektura doo, the plan is to build a facility for Nestle PBMS (Plant Based Meal Solutions), where four kinds of products will be produced (stake, medallion, breast and filet), based on soy, gluten, rapeseed oil, yeast extract, flour, vinegar and water, with added aromas.

The facility is planned as an extension and reconstruction of the existing distribution center within the industrial complex of Nestle in Surcin.

It is said that the development plan of Nestle Adriatic S envisages an expansion of the range of products and that the company has therefore chosen its production location in Serbia for the production of plant-based products.

The new facility will have sections for the production, freezing and packing.

Immediately after the construction of the production facility and side facilities for production, the plan is to make, this year, a production line that will be used for the production of Generation 1 PBMS products and later, in 2023, the plan is to make a production line for Generation 2 PBMS products.

The technological production process entails, among other things, the extruding and the cutting of the mass in four said shapes, breading, frying of semi-products, grill marking, freezing and packing.

The project emphasizes that Nestle’s research is directed at food that would reduce the risk of modern diseases, such as obesity, diabetes and blood vessel diseases, and adds that around 50% of the total production of the new facility will consist of Generation 1 product.

The public review lasts until November 22.

Let us remind that, on the global level, Nestle has been offering vegan and vegetarian products within its Garden Gourmet brand for several years now.

The company has recently announced the penetration of the market of laboratory-farmed meat.
