Serbian Scientists Invent Coronavirus Mask with Sensors – Users Able to Monitor Parameters Relevant to Their Health Condition

A professor from the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, Goran Stojanovic, and his team have invented a coronavirus mask which features sensors with the help of which, in the future, users will be able to monitor the parameters relevant to their health condition.

The project of professor Stojanovic and his team Strentex is an innovative solution in the application of electronics on textile. This way, the protective masks they produced offer a range of possibilities important to diagnosing people’s health.

– For the first time in the world, we managed to weave sensors into masks we use as protection from the spreading of the virus, and those sensors can detect, from our breath, for example, the capacity of our lungs, or the temperature from the breath and the body, or to detect the existence of various bacteria which we otherwise detect from the breath, such as, for example, Helicobacter pylori – explains Goran Stojanovic.

The idea of the implementation of sensors does not end here. At their lab, there is a range of other patents which are based on a similar principle. There’s the sweatband that is worn beneath the clothes. Also, sensors can be found in dental flosses or even in the teeth or the jaw. This allows experts to monitor various parameters, whether it is air quality, the characteristics of the sweat or the bite, which then allows them to provide a diagnosis regarding the general medical condition.

The end-goal of these scientists is mass-use production. These products would thereby be available at affordable prices to people as first aid in detecting the initial symptoms of a disease.
