Exports of Serbia Jump 26.8% Last Year, Imports 24.6%

The overall external trade in the Republic of Serbia for the period January – December 2021 amounted to EUR 50.22 billion, which was an increase of 25.5% compared to the same period 2020, whereby the exports increased 26.8% and imports 24.6%, as announced by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia.

In the twelve months, the value of exports amounted to EUR 21.62 billion, and the value of imports amounted to EUR 28.60 billion. The external trade deficit amounted to EUR 6.98 billion, which was an increase of 18.3% compared to the same period last year. The export-import ratio equaled 75.6% and was higher if compared to the same period last year when it was 74.3%.

Expressed in dollars, the overall external trade in the same period amounted to USD 59.36 billion, which was an increase of 29.8% compared to the same period 2020.

The value of exports amounted to USD 25.56 billion, which was 31.1% increase when compared to the same period last year, while the value of imports amounted to USD 33.79 billion, which was 28.8% increase relative to the same period last year. The deficit amounted to USD 8.23 billion, which was increase of 22.3% in relation to the same period last year.

The biggest contribution to the exports of Serbia was made by the Vojvodina Region (34.8%), whereas the Belgrade Region contributed the most to the imports (46.0%).

The external trade in the reference period noted the highest level with the counties with which we have signed agreements on free trade. European Union member countries account for 60.3% of total external trade.


The biggest individual foreign trade partner of Serbia was Germany, to which we exported goods worth EUR 2.74 billion and from which we imported goods worth EUR 3.77 billion.

Our second major partner refers to the CEFTA countries, since our gained surplus in external trade amounted to EUR 2.14 billion. Last year, the exports of Serbia to the CEFTA countries amounted to EUR 3.40 billion and the imports to EUR 1.26 billion. The export–import ratio equaled 270.3%.

In December 2021, the export of goods from Serbia increased 26.5% to EUR 1.99 billion compared to December 2020, and the imports increased 36.1% to EUR 29 billion.

According to the deseasonalized data, December exports increased 4.7% and imports increased 0.8% compared to the previous month.
