Lidl plans to open around 20 outlets throughout Montenegro and employ around 1,000 workers, announced the minister of economic development, Jakov Milatovic.

Milatovic said on TVCG that the government had formed an operating team within the Investment Agency, which has met twice with Lidl board representatives in the past few months.

The team has the task of preparing and harmonizing the conditions for the entry of that company to the Montenegrin market, the RTCG portal reports.

– Government representatives have had meetings with representatives of Lidl and their plan is to employ a thousand of our workers and open 20 outlets. They will also make a logistics center in Podgorica. It will not happen right away, it’s a process. We expect the plans to be realized next year and in 2024 – Milatovic said.

Economic analyst Predrag Drecun believes that the arrival of Lidl would make changes in the market and that Montenegrin store chains would have to adapt.

Economist Aleksandar Damjanovic said that everything should be done to have as many Montenegrin products as possible in such store chains.
