Nestle Completes First Phase of Construction of New Factory in Surcin Which Will Make Plant-Based Products – Investment Worth 67 Million Francs, Jobs for 330 Workers

Nestle has marked the completion of the first phase of the construction of a new factory in Surcin. The new facility will use locally-grown soybean and be meant for the production of the Garden Gourmet plant-based portfolio. The planned production capacity of the factory is 12,000 tons a year, and exports are planned to France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Great Britain. The new factory will spread on 18,440 square meters and is located close to the existing Nestle factory in Surcin, which has been working since 2012. The beginning of production at the new factory is planned for the final quarter of the current year.

Marjana Davidovic, Country Manager Adriatic Hub South at Nestle, stated that she was proud of the fact that Serbia already has two Nestle factories and that the country was a very important business location for Nestle in Europe.

– We are building the most modern factory in line with green standards and opening the door to a new 330 employees. We are expanding the network of local suppliers with the intention of continuing to support the local economy. When Nestle came to Serbia 17 years ago, it was clear that it was there to stay. We accepted the popular Serbian brand “C” and upgraded it, expanded the portfolio and also brought famous Nestle brands to Serbia – Davidovic stated.

The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, who attended the event, estimates that this is great investment for the country.

– There’s an increasing demand for plant-based products and that is why it’s important to be a leader in this, to offer such products in the local market, but also abroad – he said.

Nelly Angelova, Communications Manager South East at Nestle, said that “after 17 years of successful operations, we see Serbia as an important destination for the further investments”.

– Another factory will there in a few months to prove it. The existing Nestle factory in Serbia displays extraordinary results, an increase in production capacities, competitive operating costs and a low financial risk, as well as top-quality knowledge and employee development. In addition to new brands and production lines, we are also glad to be bringing sustainable solutions – Angelova stated.


The aim of the Garden Gourmet portfolio, the press release says, is to fully utilize the soybean grown on European soil. The factory will use renewable energy from hydro power plants, not produce municipal waste and treat all the waste waters on the spot at their own waste water treatment facility.

– In the long term, industrial production can only be successful if it is sustainable, and that requires taking responsibility toward the environment and the local community. Nestle continues to position itself in Serbia not just as a pioneer when it comes to ecologically-aware operations, but also regarding professional education, by creating the possibility for young professionals to develop their skills at the factory in Surcin, and is an important example for other companies – stated Urs Schmid, Swiss Ambassador to Serbia.

In 2012, Nestle took over the “Centroproizvod” factory, continued the production of the “C” brand and started making world-renowned THOMY, MAGGI and Nestle Professional products, with exports to over 40 countries worldwide. At the moment, Nestle Srbija employs 550 people at the factory and the company’s corporate seat.
