Mercator S, one of the largest traders in food products in the region of Southeast Europe, has opened its first Roma mega market in the capital city of Bulgaria, worth over 4 million euros.
The Roda market occupies the surface of over 4,000 square meters and offers its buyers more than 20,000 articles, while consumers will have at their service 100 trained traders employed in this facility. By the end of the year, Mercator plans to open another three Roda markets in Sofia, Varna and Stara Zagora. A total amount of Mercator's investments in Bulgaria should reach 10 million euros until the end of 2010.
Mercator S is present in the market of Serbia since December 2002. During that period, it has invested over 280 million euros and, thus, become one of the most significant investors in the country.
"With the strategic merger with Coka business system in August 2010 and the projected investment of about 9 million euros, Mercator S has strengthened its position in the retail sector in Serbia and the position of the second largest trade company in the country with the market share of about 9%", reads the company's statement.
