The European Commission has adopted the new Decree which redistributes the quotas for the import of steel to the EU which were previously meant for Russia and Belarus. The quotas for the export of certain kinds of steel have been increased for Serbia.

– We believe that this change in the EU regulations will be used by our steel companies, which are at the same time big exporters. It should be reminded that the steel industry of Serbia has been limited by EU quotas for the export of steel for several years now, although there is the Free Trade Agreement with the EU – points out Bojan Stanic, assistant director of the Sector for Strategic Analyses, Services and Internationalization.

Concretely, the specific quota for Category 1 has been increased for Serbia, whereas for the categories 3A, 3B, 7, 12, 13, 16, 19, 21, 24, 25B, 26, 27 and 28, the residual quotas which our country can use have been increased, according to the website of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia.

The European Commission adopted the Decree (2022/434) after the decision on the ban on the import of steel from Russia and Belarus to the EU market.
