Moscow will try to solve the issue of paying for Russian gas in rubles for Serbia, the Kremlin PR, Dmitry Peskov, said today.

– He [Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic] is right, it can truly be a problematic situation – Peskov told the press. Peskov pointed out that Bulgaria had acted “with hostility” toward Russia and added that it would have to pay for Russian gas in rubles, “whether it likes it or not”.

– However, that doesn’t apply to Serbia. That’s a problem that needs to be solved and Serbia’s concerns will be a priority for us – Peskov said. Vucic stated earlier that paying for Russian gas in rubles would be a problem.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday that Russia would not accept payments in euros and dollars for the sold gas and that the hostile importing countries had to pay in rubles. He said that the future changes in the agreements on the delivery of gas with hostile countries would only concern the currency of the payment, that is, that it would be replaced with the Russian ruble.
