The reconstruction of the Radomir Putnik Square, considering its scope, is a project of capital importance for the City of Kragujevac, which will thereby get a serious central pedestrian zone, pointed out the mayor of Kragujevac, Nikola Dasic, announcing the reconstruction project.

By removing the traffic in front of the court building and transforming the parking spaces, the square will be linked to the existing pedestrian zone in the space in front of Zlatna Ruza and Peron, so this will become a big promenade in the future. Kragujevac will get the kind of center that a city of its size deserves.

Mayor Dasic also announced the raising of a monument to Prince Milos in that location. As the capital of modern Serbia, the City of Kragujevac has the obligation to honor not just the prince, but also his associates, among whom were Joakim Vujic, Slezinger and Vuk Karadzic, who took part, together with Milos, in creating the modern Serbian state. The reconstruction of the square in front of the court building is precisely the first step toward making Kragujevac the city with the most beautiful center and promenade in the region, according to the city’s website.

According to Aleksandar Milosevic, the assistant mayor for the realization of capital projects and cooperation with the Government of Serbia, the reconstruction of the square is a project of remarkable importance for the city. The project is worth around RSD 300 million, which makes it a capital project.

The City of Kragujevac and the Development Administration have finished the entire procedure regarding the project documentation. This means that the urban project was adopted, that the property relations had been resolved in the location previously and that the project for the construction permit, issued in December 2021, had been done. The City of Kragujevac then opened the tender for the execution project, which was prepared within the deadline and sent to the competent administration for technical control. Following that, the preparation of the tender for the contractor is to follow. According to Milosevic, this is expected to be published next month. After that, all the deadlines for the execution of the works and the exact value of the project will be known.

As for the court building, it is still owned by the Republic of Serbia, that is, the Ministry of Economy. The procedure of the transferring of the property from the republic to the city is ongoing and, once completed, the city of Kragujevac will be able to take certain measures, such as the repair of that building. A complicating factor is that the court building is under the highest degree of protection and that it is impossible to change anything in the facility. The initial ideas were to turn it into a museum or a gallery. However, due to the offices being small, there is not enough room for it. It is difficult to make the decision, but there is no rush and we will find the most adequate purpose, said mayor Dasic.
